SONO Art Collection Goes Live

What started as a way for a Hurricane Katrina survivor to cope with her loss, has, with help from Softwyre, turned into a unique art collection and a profitable e-commerce Web site, SonoArtCollection.com.

Hurricane Katrina swallowed New Orleans native Nancy Bounds’ home and nearly everything in it, including her treasured family photographs. The floodwaters had turned her photos into unrecognizable blotches of color, but Nancy just couldn’t part with them. So she scanned them, named them after people and places in the Crescent City, and calls her art the “Spirit of New Orleans Art Collection.” And now she’s selling prints online. Lots of them.

For the SONO Art Collection project, Softwyre deployed a full range of Web site planning, development, creative and marketing services. We worked with the client to plan a strategic roll-out of the art collection, complete with a public art party to debut the art, and a local media blitz to draw traffic to the new Web site. SonoArtCollection.com launched in perfect timing for local news reporters to visit the site when covering the SONO Art Collection party on April 5, 2007.

SonoArtCollection.com is an e-commerce Web site developed in Newswyre, Softwyre’s proprietary content management system. Site visitors can read about Nancy Bounds’ inspiring survival story, view the art collections and purchase prints online. And the client can easily update the Web site herself, adding new collections and editing descriptions as often as needed.
